Family Therapy: Core Concepts and Interventions

This training will introduce core concepts of family therapy, including ways to conceptualize a family system, some of the theoretical perspectives of family therapy and how to assess family dynamics. Participants will learn skills for facilitating family sessions and questions to ask families that will guide assessment and intervention. The training will include a mix of didactic instruction, group discussion and experiential activities.

This training is Part 1 of a series in family therapy. CEUs will be provided separately for each training. Participation in both parts is encouraged but NOT required. To learn more about Part 2 of this series, visit:

Program Objectives:

1.) Participants will be able to describe the conceptual differences between individual and family therapy.

2.) Participants will be able to explain three theoretical perspectives of family therapy.

3.) Participants will learn ways to assess relational and communication dynamics within a family system.

4.) Participants will be able to name and describe the phases of a family session and the goals of each phase.

5.) Participants will learn specific questions to ask families as part of the assessment and intervention process.

6.) Participants will be able to demonstrate how to facilitate a family therapy session.

Presenter: Ashleigh Mondoux, LICSW-Ashleigh has been working with children and families in various capacities for over 17 years. Her experiences include working with young children and families involved with the DCYF system as well as over 8 years at Riverbend Community Mental Health Center as a clinician and clinical coordinator of the Family Intensive Team and as the Assistant Director of the Children’s Program. Ashleigh now owns a private practice in Keene, NH where she provides therapy services, consultation and training for schools and area agencies and teaches social work at the college level.
