Description

Ford, Daniel Charles Age 69, of Minneapolis, passed away October 24 following a long illness. Preceded in death by parents Jean and Charles Ford and nephew Kyle Kacirek. Survived by his loving husband and partner of forty years, Wallace Earl; sisters Terri Spencer, Carol Kacirek and Janet Altman, niece Randi, nephews Justin and Aaron Altman and many in his extended family and loving friends. Dan played a key role in the development of chemical dependency services for Minnesota youth in the early 1970s. In San Francisco he carried on this work with runaway youth and then earned an Ed.D. in Human Sexuality from the Institute for Advanced Study of Human Sexuality in San Francisco. Dan was a pioneer in the study of sexuality in the gay, bisexual and transgender community in a time of AIDS. The loss of dear friends lost to HIV affected him deeply. He became Director of Prevention Services at the Cascade AIDS Project in Portland and returned to Minnesota in 1992 where he finished his career as Director of Education for the Minnesota AIDS Project. He was brilliant, funny, creative, loving, and a true and constant presence to those who knew and loved him. Friends of Dan can simply perform some act of kindness in his memory.
