Dr. Neira is a certified sex therapist, educator, and licensed clinical social worker with over 14 years of experience working in the medical field providing psychotherapeutic services to patients and their families. Dr. Neira attended Florida International University where she graduated cum laude in 2001 and then completed her masters work with highest honors in 2004. She became a clinical sexologist in 2008 and has been providing individual, couples, and group therapy within the hospital setting. Dr. Neira has worked with patients in Mount Sinai Medical Center – both in oncology and geriatrics in their Alzheimer’s and dementia clinic. She has expansive knowledge of the LGBT community and worked 5 years providing individual therapy to HIV positive men through community outreach clinics. Dr. Neira is currently working at the University of Miami Sylvester Cancer Center. There she works with women diagnosed with Breast and Gynecological Cancers. Besides providing assistance with concrete needs, Dr. Neira assists them in adjusting to the physical and psychological difficulties associated with their cancer, including but not limited to depression, anxiety, grief counseling, end of life issues, relationship and intimacy/sexual issues, as well as body image issues. Dr. Neira is also the Program Coordinator for the Woman to Woman Peer Mentorship Program at Sylvester. A grant awarded to Dr. Neira by the Ovarian Research Fund Alliance. Dr. Neira trains and supervises GYO cancer survivors who then provide mentorship to recently diagnosed women having difficulty adjusting to their diagnosis or who just want to speak with someone who has been through it. In her personal life, Dr. Neira is actively involved in community outreach efforts specifically targeting women’s health and reproductive rights and works closely with community centers offering education on sexual health, end of life issues, psycho-oncology, pregnancy, birth and breastfeeding.
