Exploring the impact and influence of pornography on young people

May 15 @ 4:00 pm - 5:30 pm BST
Gain the knowledge, skills, and tools necessary to effectively and proactively discuss media and porn with young people

Traditionally a difficult topic to talk about, this online workshop aims to build educators confidence to engage young people in critical thinking about this important area of RSE. To question what they see, understand active consent and challenge gender and race-based stereotypes in ways that avoid shame and blame.

Whilst it is normal for children to be curious about sex, bodies and intimate relationships, what they learn and where they learn it from is crucial. With many choosing to educate themselves from online porn sites, the abundance of free content continues to raise concerns. Often portraying sex, consent and gender in unrealistic ways, research suggests many children have already seen it, deliberately or by mistake, before they even leave primary school.

With the majority of teens admitting to getting some or all of their sex education from these potentially harmful sources, this workshop aims to provide parents/carers and educators with the basic knowledge to challenge confusing messages of aggression, control and misogyny and promote positive, healthy relationships
